The full form of ICU is known as the Intensive Care Unit. It is a special division of a hospital that provides patientssuffering with grave illness or accident critically-needed medications and extensive medical attention. Patients with the most severe and life-threatening illnessesor injury which require continuous and constant monitoring by a team of specialist physicians and nurses are treated in the intensive care units. The ICU team is trained in treating patients who are seriously ill or seriously injured. In the ICU, patients are treated for serious injuries or illness. ICU is also known by the terms CCU (Critical Care Unit) or ITU (Intensive Treatment Unit).
